Description of Research: We are interested in clinical trials for treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders as well as quality improvement initiatives to improve treatment outcomes for our system of care.
Relevance to VA: Substance use disorders (SUDs) affect 7.1% of veterans(SAMHSA 2007, NHSDUH). The past year SUD prevalence is 25% in veterans ages 18 to 25. SUDs increase the risk of poor medical and psychiatric outcomes.
